Hey folks, I’m in a somewhat unique position of being a teacher with money to burn on some new tents for our school’s outdoor education program. We’re looking to replace some of our older tents, and need something that can withstand use and abuse from kids from ages 8-14. I’ve done some research of my own but wanted to see if I’d missed anything.
I’m looking for 4 person tents with the following qualities:
- around $200 each (there’s some wiggle room here)
- has quality zippers
- comes with a footprint (or has one easily available at a reasonable cost)
- has aluminum poles
These additional traits would be a bonus:
- two doors
- rainfly that covers most if not, all of the tent
Does anyone know of a tent (or tents) that meet these criteria? Thanks in advance!

Alps tents is what you’re looking for. Sign up for hiker direct and you can’t beat the bang for the buck for what you’re looking for.

That’s what I was going to say, I know they have some outfitter models that are heavier construction and fabric, would probably hold up to use & abuse a little better.

I suggest them to everyone since, without fail, whenever I go camping or hunting, other people’s tents leak during intense downpours but the Coleman’s stays dry.

Is there a specific model you could recommend that meets the criteria I mentioned in the OP?

The Coleman Sundomes are great, sturdy, reliable tents. Easy to use. And way under budget for you.
Edit: Sorry, overlooked your aluminum pole requirement. I still recommend the Sundome tents. I used one with 2 kids for a decade. Would still be using it if a cat hadn’t peed on it. Poles were still great.
