Recent Concerns About the Quality of Marmot Highlander Jackets

Two years ago my father bought 3 highlander jackets from marmot, two for my brother and I and one for himself. Unfortunately during that time my car was broken into and my jacket stolen, bummer. At the time i felt the jackets were high quality, light and warm at a pretty good price point. Fast forward to today, i just bought the same jacket. And instead of their brand name embroidered into the jacket, it is just printed on. Same with the back of the jacket where the logo is. Im left to wonder, why they made this decision, and what does it mean for the quality of the materials themselves. Obviously not a huge deal, but i was a little disappointed to be completely honest. Anyways, end of my rant. :pensive:

I prefer stitched logos over printed ones. A printed logo just doesn’t seem to have the same quality feel.

Totally agree. Makes me wonder how many washes it will take before the logo just fades away.

@Indy
How often do you find yourself washing a down jacket?

@Indy
Is it really better once the logo is gone? Are we talking a drop in the actual quality of the jacket, or just the logo? Personally, I prefer no stitching—it means fewer holes in one spot.

@Indy
Oh no

You’re out here posting outfit photos and criticizing? At least I keep the tags on for the return! The irony!

Those logos won’t make your beard any thicker.

@Phoenix
And outfit posts won’t make you any younger.

Let’s see in 20 years.

@Indy
What’s the importance of the logo? Also, washing down jackets too often isn’t recommended anyway.

I knew Marmot was heading downhill when I started seeing their products in discount stores.

Overstock items from many brands end up in those stores. It doesn’t necessarily mean the brand is bad. You’d be hard-pressed to find a premium brand that hasn’t appeared in a discount retailer.

They seem to be following the same path as North Face, focusing on quick profits with gear that feels good but isn’t meant for serious use. I still use older North Face gear, and I’ve noticed a difference with the newer items.

@Raven
North Face still offers high-quality items in their Summit Series, but yes, they also have more accessible, less expensive options.

You might be right. It seems all about maximizing profits nowadays.

I’ve had a Marmot down jacket for nearly 15 years. It’s worn out a bit but still holds up.

Altra shoes have really dropped in quality. They’re practically unusable now.

Just got a 2023 model for around $50. Haven’t worn it much, but it seems alright so far.

It’s not just Marmot, many clothing brands are compromising on quality. My older Patagonia items have held up better compared to the new ones which feel flimsy and even shrunk quickly.
