Edit: Big thanks to everyone who gave advice! I actually found a local buyer who messaged me here, and we’re meeting up at REI tomorrow. Couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help!
I’ve been browsing around this forum but haven’t seen too many suggestions on where to sell used camping gear.
I have a lightweight tent with a small, repairable hole. It’s barely used and could use a good home. I’ve only sold a few things online and wanted to see if there are any recommended apps besides Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp. Any advice on where to post it?
You could try GearTrade, eBay, or Craigslist. Also, REI has a Re/Supply program where you can trade in your gear, and they either sell it as-is or repair it before reselling on their site.

Other good options: Geartrade.com, Facebook Marketplace, or even some ultralight gear forums.
Same here! I’m actually selling this one to help out a friend who lost everything recently.
Sorry to hear that – are they in NC and dealing with hurricane damage? Some whitewater outfitters here have been offering gear to help folks out. If it’s the case, they might be able to help with posting your camping gear too.
@Adi
No, I’m in Southern California. My friend is a firefighter in Arizona, and his cabin in Mt. Laguna caught fire while he was away – likely due to fireworks. He lost everything except what he had in his truck.
It’s going to take a while for any insurance, so a few of us are trying to help. I lost my own home to a fire in Hawaii once, so I know how it feels, and people helped me back then. Just paying it forward.
@Micah
Wow, that’s heartbreaking – both for him and you. You’re a great friend for doing this. Best of luck finding buyers. You might check out some gear swap groups on Facebook. There are some for the PNW and elsewhere that often include camping gear.
Most people sell on marketplace websites, but keep in mind that it’s pretty seasonal. Sales pick up around April or May when people need gear for last-minute trips, and some even pay a bit extra if they’re in a hurry to get it!
