Tent Camping next to busy road

I’ve been given a campsite next to a road leading to a parking lot for a popular hike. There is no barrier between the site and the road. I have little kids and was going to bring the dog. I want to make it very clear to any passers-by that this is my campsite and no one should walk through or disturb us. And keep the kids and dog corralled and off the road. I also want to create some privacy. Any hints or suggestions?

Bring a big roll of “Caution” tape and apply liberally around the campsite. Good luck and enjoy the trip!

Additionally, bring earplugs. Even from a great distance, roads are noisy.

I mean… do you not have ANY other options? Camping near a busy road sucks, I would be extra anxious with my dogs with me also. There are a hell of a lot of camping spots with trail heads nearby that aren’t next to busy roads. Anyhow I am not sure on how to create privacy. But I have seen people kind of mark their spots via torches (tiki).

Unless you have other options, I’d not worry about it. People only hike typically in the early morning hours, so the noise won’t be continuous and not likely when you are sleeping. Put your folding chairs right in any potential walking path and that will discourage most walk throughs.

Why would you camp in a spot like that?

It’s a really popular campground and it was one of those recreation.gov alerts that I snatched up when it appeared. It will be a great time and place to go but the camping spot sucks.
