We’re planning a lengthy road trip and the backpacking tent we currently use is too short, making it uncomfortable. Weight isn’t an issue since we’ll be traveling by car. We’re in search of a high-quality tent that allows my husband, who is 6’5", to stand and move freely inside. Ideally, it should fit 4-6 people and be durable. We checked out some options at REI recently but nothing caught our eye. I’m hesitant to order from Amazon without seeing the tent first. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
I own a Grizzly 10x10 canvas tent which has an 8-foot center height. It costs about $800 but is incredibly durable and can even accommodate a wood stove inside.

I really like these! Thanks a lot.

This sounds perfect for you, offering quality shelter for car camping year-round.
I used to have an REI Kingdom 6 tent which was tall enough for me at 6’3". Surprisingly, REI doesn’t seem to have a current model with similar dimensions. Check out the Wonderland series; the 6-person model boasts a 6’6" peak height.
@Whitney
We bought this model for my 6’3" husband, and it’s been fantastic for us to stand up in.
You might want to consider a teepee style tent from Seek Outside, or their Courthouse wall tent which is 8’2" in the center and suitable for use with cots.

The Courthouse might be just what you need. Seek Outside also offers the 6-person Redcliff which assembles fairly quickly. Here are some links for more info: Seek Outside Redcliff and Courthouse tents.
Check out the Nemo Wagontop. It’s been discontinued but you might find it second-hand.
I have a Core Equipment 12-person straight wall cabin tent. It’s huge, I’m 6’3" and can stand up everywhere inside. It easily fits 4 cots, dogs, and camping gear, making it suitable for up to 6 people.
@Kiran
This looks perfect, thank you for the recommendation!
Just a heads up about the setup and takedown time of larger tents when road tripping. It can be cumbersome, especially if you’re not staying more than one night in a location. Consider the weather and potential for moisture. We once traveled with two tents, a small one for quick stops and a larger one for longer stays, and occasionally stayed in hotels to dry off and get a good night’s sleep.
@Valen
We’re heading out in late January for a three-month tour of the Southern US, planning 3-5 day stays at most places. Thanks for the tip about packing a smaller tent as a backup!

That sounds fantastic! Changing plans as needed is part of the adventure. Safe travels and enjoy!
As someone who is 6’3", I’ve resigned myself to the fact that stooping is part of tent life. However, a six-person tent generally offers more headroom.
What’s your budget? For less than $500, Coleman has several options that should work for car camping. If you’re willing to spend more, like up to $5,000, you could consider the Mountain Hardwear Space Station which offers ample space and height.
@Tan
Our budget is flexible, ideally between $500 and $1000. We’re also interested in potentially using a wood stove inside, so a tent that can accommodate that would be great.

For winter camping, a canvas tent like the Kodiak models might be your best option. They are durable and spacious, though they can be bulky to transport.
@Tan
We’ll be touring from January through April, so that sounds like a good fit. Thanks for the suggestion!
At 6’5", finding a tent where you don’t have to stoop might be a challenge. Look for tents labeled as six-person or larger for the best chance at more vertical space.
