I had some money left on a gift card to BPS so I picked this guy up. I have a campfire fork too, but figure this would be nice to have as well for burgers and braughts.
I put a whole trout in one of these once and grilled it. It was very picturesque and was hands down the most disgusting thing I ever made at camp. My fault, not the trout’s.

Haha! It’s why, though I like to cook trout and salmon while camping, I may just stick with burgers and braughts and hotdogs since with fish, you have to deal with temp regulation a bit more than the other three. Can’t exactly regulate heat intensity on a campfire like on a gas grill.
@Ren
For trout it’s best to wrap them in foil with lemon and butter and toss it in hot coals for about 7 minutes each side. Least, that’s what I’ve found to work.

What’s funny is two weeks ago we found one of these at the campsite we were at and I filleted a huge bull trout (legal where I caught it) and cooked it with bacon fat, salt, and lemon, and it was spectacular. It took about 40 minutes over the fire. It was literally the best fish dish I’ve ever made and I didn’t get a picture of it and am kicking myself.
I’m honestly kinda impressed with the Coughlan’s brand stuff. It’s cheaper but most of what I’ve bought from them has lasted well. Some of it looks like I should avoid it based on being made from cheap plastic. But stuff like this grill seem nicer for the price you pay.
I use something similar to that to grill trout. It’s nice because of how easy it is to flip the fish to cook both sides. Happy camping!

Lmao at you and another person commenting having the same inclination to cook trout in this thing but vastly differing experiences with success lol

Thx! Yup same here! I like me some good juicy trout or salmon when out camping! Smokey grilled and marinated or seasoned to perfection This should make it easier to handle.
I have one of these. It’s a champ; it’s going on a decade old. Makes two dozen hot dogs in just a few minutes. Perfect if you camp with a passel of kids.

Good to know!! I like to camp with friends so this might make a good “bulk cooker” for campfire eats.
How is the quality of this one? I have used the original one for more than ten years. I want to change it now.

Seems solid. I haven’t had a chance to use it yet as I just got it last night. Going to line up my camping trips next year for when the season starts, then I’ll take it on my first trip and try it out.
This and pie irons… and you can’t eat very good stuff easily
I cut that thing in half. Removed the handle. Voila. Now you have two grill grates. You can easily carry one with you in your backpack and use the grate on the fire to cook food on it. And you will have one extra when the first one is getting rusty or bad.

I can’t figure out if it’s /r/ultralight or /r/ultralight_jerk that’s leaking here. Either way with that mindset, you should join both if you haven’t already.

Sorry my motivation was not to be negative against OP. I was just giving out a DIY tip on how to make your own small grate. I couldn’t find such a grate in the store but I found the same type as OP. So I did what I did and it worked great.
@Emil
No, no, man, it’s all in good fun, you just might appreciate those subs.
