I’m in search of a down jacket designed with zippers at the hips, ideal for activities like horseback riding, ATV and bike riding, and other outdoor movements. Regular jackets tend to ride up, which is a nuisance. I’ve scoured major brands without much luck. Any recommendations would be appreciated, preferably not costing around $700!
Have you considered a jacket with a double front zipper? You can unzip from the bottom to allow more flexibility during activities. This feature is common in many parkas and performance jackets.

That’s an interesting idea I hadn’t considered. I’ll definitely take another look at the offerings from major brands.

Absolutely, a two-way front zipper is a lifesaver for activities like sitting in the snow. It allows the jacket to fall naturally around your back and sides. Many climbing and mountaineering brands include this feature for easy harness access.
This Carhartt jacket has been the best investment for my outdoor activities: https://www.carhartt.com/product/104293-BLKLREG?cid=cpc_D2C_US_go_sem-evg_dr_pmax&cmp-20373968802=&adg-=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAst67BhCEARIsAKKdWOn6-hwNXD6zlPCMWcNd3UDHaAf-8ZQ6VWxPxtrCHpUzPt5WjcFlv34aAr6IEALw_wcB
What brand are you currently using? Fjallraven’s jackets with dual front zippers might solve your problem. Also, what’s your build like? That can affect fit and comfort, especially for dynamic activities.

I’m wearing a Columbia jacket I picked up on sale. Not overweight but I usually wear a tall size. My main concern with the dual zipper is it could let in cold air during high-speed activities on vehicles.
You might want to check out the Swix Horizon down parka, although it might be longer than what you’re looking for.
