I was struggling to remove the cover with gloves on and didn’t realize the amount of force I was applying until I ripped the corner of my Nemo Tensor. Can this be repaired, or is it beyond salvage?
Sorry, but that item is toast.
It’s gone, Jim.
You might fix it with some welding or a patch, but overall it’s pretty much done for. I wouldn’t trust a major repair unless it was just for a short period.

Sure, you could repair it, and it would serve well for car camping. But I wouldn’t depend on it in the backcountry.
If it’s a Nemo, you might be eligible for a replacement under their lifetime warranty.

They replaced my old sleeping pad from 2011 with the newest version. I’m a Nemo customer for life now.
@Avery
Absolutely, they’ve replaced an old Losi 3P tent and several sleeping pads for me. I’m definitely sticking with them.
You could potentially create a new seam inboard of the tear to get the outer layers to bond. Assuming you can remove any damaged inner fabric layers, use a hot iron to seal it.
That’s really unfortunate to see.
It’s a goner. Maybe ask Santa for a new one.
I had the same tear on my Nemo Tensor this summer on the CDT. Same spot, same size. Quite peculiar.

This might be due to an internal baffle or seam.

That’s interesting. Seems like a design flaw. My Big Agnes hasn’t torn like this because it’s not connected directly to the edge. If it did rip, it would likely just affect the rubber cap, not the edge, so it would still be usable.
@Perrin
Apparently, Nemo is flawless and just changed their design for the fun of it, not because this was a common issue. Do I earn points now?
@Perrin
The cap is really secure, which always made me nervous about potentially breaking it. I never expected it to tear like this, but I’ve never had the mattress deflate overnight, so perhaps the secure cap design is intentional.
I managed to patch a very similar tear on a Tensor during the PCT this year. It’s doable in an emergency. I used S2S pad patches, layering several across the tear. It held air all night in my hammock, but I immediately sent for my backup pad. I wouldn’t count on it as a long-term fix.
I had a similar issue on the John Muir Trail. Wasn’t able to repair it. Luckily, it wasn’t too cold before I reached my next resupply and got a replacement pad.
It’s not repairable.
I wouldn’t patch that unless you’re okay with sleeping directly on the ground.
