So not really a camper, but I am a forester. Getting kind of tired of eating my meals cold out in the woods so im looking for some kind of mess kit and one of those little camp stoves that screws onto the top of a butane/propane bottle. Theres a lot of options out there though, so im consulting you guys. Heres what im looking for ideally:
Mess kit: Stainless steel Really just need a bowl/big cup for making tea and heating up soup, and a plate. No utensils necessary Something that all nests together would be great Preferably sub $45
Camp stove: Durable Butane vs. Propane?? Is one better? Adjustable gas control would be cool too Also not expensive. I looked at jetboils, why is that shit so expensive?
Thanks in advance guys

For less than $45 in total, you could purchase a BRS 3000T stove and a 750 ml toaks titanium pot. That’s about the best you can get if you’re looking for a good budget purchase.
But I’m not sure about the plate.

My MSR pocket rocket set is great. However, in order to boil enough water for two meals and some tea, I ended up upgrading the pot to a 1400.

I currently own a Gsi Glacier Stainless Steel One Person Mess Kit, which I adore so far. It includes a measured coffee cup, a bowl, a skillet, a pot for boiling, and its own storage bag. The stove I personally own and suggest is the Coleman Peak One Single Burner Isobutane Canister Stove, which is fairly quiet and can be turned down to simmer. It is also fully adjustable, so you can simmer with it. I purchased mine for $25, and I adore it as well.

I bought an east German mess kit from the 70s or 80s at an army surplus store for like $15 and it’s become my favourite. Plenty of room, it all stacks together and has space still inside to put food while it’s packed up.

Browse eBay and purchase a used BSA mess kit made by Regal, which includes a bowl/plate, frying pan with handle, pot with lid, and cup. Everything fits into a small, independent package. Mine dates back to the 1970s. For longevity, stability, and superior flame control, I would purchase a Kovea Spider stove that uses isobutane canisters, which are available at Walmart.
