Hammock tents in Camping

After nearly falling asleep multiple times in my regular hammock, I’m ready to buy a hammock tent. I’m unsure if I should get a regular ‘free form’ hammock tent or a flat bottom ‘floating tent’. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I think one of the things that makes me fall asleep so easily in the hammock is that it swaddles you but unsure.

I just came back from a trip with several hammock campers.

Two of us used hennessey expedition zips. I love this hammock particularly for how easily my sleeping pad fits into the asymmetrical layout. And how easy it is to clip my junk onto the ridgeline. I use the stock rainfly and it’s been a-ok in serious rain. The other guy had a much larger upgraded fly and it looked pretty sweet but obviously took more space.

The third guy used a normal hammock from amazon with an integrated bug net. He was comfortable and his tensioning system was easier to use but he had no ridgeline so his mosquito net was resting on his skin at times.

So to answer your question I think the asym type is a good compromise because you sleep slightly more flat but without needing that perfect three-tree setup for the floating tent type.

You probably want to also post this over at r/hammockcamping, as it likely has a lot more people who have experience with using both types of hammock tent.

Yeah, god forbid people actually try to have an interactive conversation in a forum. Much better to just silence all new conversations and demand people look at the old threads instead. Much friendlier that way, much healthier.
