I just got back from a hiking trip and forgot to unpack my Uniqlo Ultra light down jacket. It was folded and stored in its pouch for about 5 months. When I finally took it out, it was crumpled and no longer puffy. Can this be fixed? I’ve read that putting it in a dryer with tennis balls might help, but I don’t have a dryer. Also, those tips were for jackets that had been washed, not compressed for a long time.
Not many know this, but a while back I visited a factory named after a country and a bird where they used a fly swatter on an automatic arm to fluff up down jackets. I tried it myself with a fly swatter and it worked great. It’s a good alternative to the dryer and tennis balls method.
@Vance
Were you at the Liechtenstein Blue-footed Booby factory?

Just be careful not to overdo it or you might end up with tennis elbow.

Oh yeah, my mind went straight to ‘American Eagle’. But ‘American’ isn’t really a country, is it?
@Brenner
I really want one of their men’s parkas, but $1495 is a bit much for my budget.
I would find a dryer and some tennis balls.
I’d suggest searching ‘fluffer’ online but… maybe not.

No, no. That’s actually a good idea.

Maybe try asking on Craigslist. Or Facebook marketplace if you’re feeling adventurous.

That’s what I did and it solved my problem quickly.

Came here just for the fluffer jokes.

I wish I had someone to fluff my jacket after camping trips.
You could put it in a bag and hit it with something like a tennis racket or a spatula, anything similar to what you’d use to beat rugs—oh right, they’re called rug beaters. This could help puff up the down inside, like fluffing a pillow.
