Exped Duo Deep Sleep from REI Resupply Not Inflating?

I just purchased an Exped Duo Deep Sleep sleeping pad from REI Resupply for $112. It was returned due to discomfort but looks perfect. I’ve never used an Exped sleeping pad before, so I’m not sure how they’re supposed to inflate or how firm they should be. It was packed very tightly in the sleeve, and after 18 hours, it looks almost fully inflated but is still very soft. I can easily squeeze it without any resistance. Is this normal? Should it have self-inflated completely? There was no hand pump or repair kit included; is that standard? Could this mat be defective?

You need the hand pump to fully inflate the sleeping pad.

I recommend the mini electric Exped pump, especially if you have multiple Exped mats. It makes inflating them much easier.

@Kai
Do you stack all your mats like in ‘The Princess and the Pea’?

Consider buying the Exped MegaPump. It’s great for inflating and vacuum-sealing the pad so it fits back into its bag perfectly.

It’s normal for the pad to need topping off with a pump. Storing it uncompressed helps it inflate faster. Experiment with the inflation to find the right firmness for you—it might take a few tries.

Thanks so much for pointing that out. I feel silly for not checking there first!

@Clayton
You’re not dumb for asking questions. That’s how you learn. Good job for seeking out information.
