Camera for car for trails

Hello everyone, new to the group but not new to camping. My spouse is interested in driving trails and recording our journey through trails, in our car. I am wondering if this group could suggest a camera for our SUV? Some things to know: we won’t have any phone reception or wifi on most trails, we are in PA, and I’m not trying to spend over $100. If that isn’t possible, please let me know that!

The least expensive method would be to glance out the windshield with your phone in a holder. It is actually possible to attach a suction cup mount to the windshield.

Because using a camera you already own is typically the least expensive option.

Though you do need to take care not to knock them off the vehicle, placing an Action Cam outside of your car will yield a far better image than mounting one inside. If you can find one for a reasonable price, acquire one and mount it. If you want the vehicle in the picture while off-roading, I would install it on the front bumper or high up.

When the weeds strangle it in, you’ll eventually brush it off if you place it on the side of the car.) The fairly poor action cams that were available for less than $100 used to be common, but after checking Micro Center’s website, I couldn’t find any. Kind of the standard, GoPros start at about $200.

Keep in mind that it’s really difficult to film off-roading while keeping it appear even remotely as awesome as it does. I have some cool off-road film of myself that appears level and flat.

I’m not too sure what our end goal is with this new hobby, but I think his goal is to just film trails (no razzledazzle). I guess like a trail guide for state parks. So, we won’t be doing anything too crazy. Thank you for the advice!

For this, Insta360 x3 is fantastic. It records in 360 degrees, but you may later reframe, pan, and so on to create ordinary rectangular video. You can put an end to your trail tinkering because you know the 360 captures it all. But it’s a $500 investment. I’ll never use GoPro again. Amazing technology. Since the X4 is now available, I anticipate significant sales around Black Friday.

Used cell phones can make decent cameras, but they will require a lot of experimenting and a good wide angle lens. These can be substantially stabilized in DaVinci or Capcut Pro (worth every penny). Use a large micro SD card and shoot at the best resolution feasible.

Obtain a healthy state GoPro Hero via FBM.

That price is a bit steep for me, but I will keep your suggestion in mind, thank you!

This one in San Francisco is $80, so I’m sure you can find good deals in other lower cost of living markets.
