Hey everyone, doing an 8 day canoe trip next year and am looking for a large drybag. Something like the MEC Slogg 115 (discontinued) or the SealLine pro pack 120L, or Eureka SS115 Canoe Pack. No sense in buying brand new for one trip.
If you are renting the boats from outfitters, they often rent some sort of portage pack. Using a standard nylon Duluth pack coated with a garbage bag works well.
I wouldn’t say that the MEC Slogg 115 is discontinued, they just run out of stock during the summer and don’t replenish inventory until the early spring. This seems to happen almost every year where it disappears from their website in the fall and reappears next season. It’s usually the same product, but every so often they’ll refresh the design a little.
In fact out of the 3 options I would wait for the Slogg (and get the HD version, it’s better). I own multiple Slogg’s and several SealLine Pro Packs, and honestly the Slogg is every bit as good for almost half the price. Not so much a fan of the Eureka Bags, but they’re an OK 3rd choice.
And as someone else mentioned, if you don’t want to wait or are dead set on buying used give r/geartrade a look. That being said, for something like this I’d usually want to buy new, unless the used item was super cheap and very lightly used. Good chance you’ll end up needing it again at some point in the future (hopefully)
It would be great if it were simply out of stock. My top pick for a dog is the Slogg. For a while now, the website has said that “this product is no longer available,” which led me to believe that it had been discontinued. I would gladly hold off on buying it until spring. Indeed, I would much prefer buy it brand-new. I sincerely appreciate your input, so thank you very much.
Check out r/geartrade .
I’m grateful .
